You've heard of ethanol and corn sweeteners, but you probably didn't know this kernel of information: components of corn have uses in cosmetics, tires, dry wall, self-repairing car paint and nanotechnology.
"Corn products can be found everywhere, in nearly everything," John Bode, CEO of the Corn Refiners Association, said in a statement announcing CRA's rebranding and new office space, which features items made from corn. (CRA still is located at 1701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW in Washington, D.C., but has moved from the 9th to the 4th floor.)
"(Corn products) make our food taste better and our cosmetics last longer, they make our plastics more environmentally friendly and our medicines easier to swallow. From the moment you wake up until the moment you go to bed, corn is the powerhouse ingredient inside hundreds of consumer products and industrial processes. That's why we call corn nature's renewable building block," Bode said.
CRA says the rebranding reflects the transformation of the 105-year-old organization to one focused on innovation and the future.
The association only has five members, but they include agribusiness giants ADM and Cargill. They process field corn rather than the sweet corn that people eat.
The corn kernel contains starch, protein, oil and fiber, enabling diverse uses. The new logo illustrates those components with different shades of green and yellow.
